When does the soccer season run?

The soccer season usually starts the second Saturday in September, takes a winter break starting in mid to late Nov, then resumes again mid February.

Can I request that my child and their friend be on the same team?

Uhm, no.  The division coordinators do their very best to ensure teams are as even as possible and this can't include special requests; otherwise, the coordinators would never get their work done.

How old does my child have to be to play in the SYSA?

The SYSA accepts players from ages 5 - 17 years of age (age as of Dec 31).

What gear does my child need to play in the league?

For house league play you need to provide your child with black shorts, shin pads, soccer cleats, and a drink.  The league will provide socks and a jersey.  Take the weather into account and provide appropriately (e.g. toque, gloves, long sleeved shirt for under the jersey, jacket for idle time, etc.).

What kind of committment do we (child and parents) need to make?

Soccer is a team sport played in all kinds of weather, as such your child is expected to attend practises and games unless notified of a cancellation by the coach.  Players are expected to arrive on time for practises and games.  If you're picking your child up from a game or practise please make a point of being on time.   If your child won't be able to make a practise or game please inform the coach.
