Technical Director

The SYSA has a new technical director, Jonas Worth.

Jonas moves to Squamish with an international coaching pedigree that includes influences from Canada, the U.S., England and Brazil. A perpetual student of the game, he holds certifications from the CSA, NSCAA (US) and the English FA as well his recently completed Master in Human Kinetics from UBC. With experience that includes technical direction at various clubs across Canada, university and pro coaching in the USL. Coach Worth hopes to share his global vision of the game with the Squamish soccer community. As a full-time resident of Squamish and head coach at Quest University, Jonas is happy to call this soccer town his home.

Jonas writes...  Please do not hesitate to contact me with ANY questions, even if they seem like the simplest question. I would also encourage you to contact me on a regular basis should you wish to have me out at your training sessions. I am a resident of Squamish and would like to be considered as assistant coach of every team. I’d be happy to hear from you at the email below.

Coaching Clinics

The SYSA is putting on 2 certified coaching clinics for the upcoming season.

  1. Community Coach Children (CCC) is a 1 day,9am to 5 pm, course at Brennan Park on Sunday September 11. This course is geared for coaching ages 6 to 10.
     
  2. Community Coach Youth (CCY) is a 2 day, 9am to 5 pm, course at Brennan Park on Saturday and Sunday October 1st and 2nd for coaching ages of 10 to 14. For those coaches in Travel who wish to take your team to the Provincials this course is required by BC Soccer.
These courses will cover things like Stages of development, basic practice planning, the role of the coach, ethics and liability, review of mini-soccer rules, basic skill development and ample amounts of sample practice sessions. The CCY will cover some more items with team development, technical skill development and information on coaching youth players.
 
The SYSA will reimburse you the cost of the course if you are a coach with our Association and submit a copy of your certificate and receipt to the treasurer. The CCC course is $85.00 and the CCY is $145.00.

BC Soccer also holds coaching clinics.  Check the list of clinics at the BC Soccer website.  The SYSA will re-imburse active SYSA coaches for attending these clinics.

Booking a School Gym

If you want to book a school gym for indoor practices then download, print, fill-in, and take this form to the district office.


Booking a Field at Brennan Park

If you want to book a field at Brennan Park (grass or all-weather) please contact the field coordinator Mark Lambert.
 


Standings Available Online

Standings for the U14 and U18 house divisions are now available on the Schedules page.  If you have an issue with the standings please fire off a (nice) email to the score keepers.  The standings are based on scores which have been submitted, and not the ones you've kept to yourself or forgot to submit.

U14 and U18 only: Coaches must email scores each week by Monday night or the game will be recorded as not played: scores@squamishsoccer.ca.  You can submit scores also using the button on the home page.

Encourage parents to sign-up to help out at the concession.
Get your team names in to your coordinator as soon as possible.
